For my animation showing the Level Up box, I started by making a storyboard to show what would happen in the animation. I did change some of my ideas as I was working in Blender, but I used the storyboard as a reference. I then made an environment of a bedroom with two walls, a table, and a monitor. I thought that my environment looked a bit empty, so I decided to create two posters to put on each wall. The posters were my own artwork that I made in Illustrator and were inspired by gaming. The environment is a bedroom as this is where most people have their gaming set-up, and it fits the theme of my box.
For the lighting, I went for a natural looking light to fit the bedroom interior. I did have one light at first to create a look of light from a window, but I had to add another light to the other side because there were harsh shadows covering the items. I had to add a light coming from above too so there were equal amounts of light everywhere.
I rendered the animation in Eevee, which made some of my textures not work as well because I had been working in cycles. Rendering in Eevee was quicker so I had to use that, but in the future, I will consider the rendering time in advance. I added royalty-free 8-bit music to my animation to link to the gaming theme.
What I have learned from this exercise is that I have improved my Blender 3D skills. I feel more comfortable with the interface and commands now, and I feel more confident modelling my own items and using the tools. I would like to improve more by getting better at keyframing my animations for a smoother animation and learning to make the camera move more smoothly too.
